Culture Hopes for Continuation of Cultural Olympiad by GTP editing team 1 September 2004 written by GTP editing team 1 September 2004 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 11 Stamatis Mavros, President of the Hellenic Culture Organization, during the presentation of the Cultural Olympiad last month at Zappeion Hall, said that the main idea that led us to the Cultural Olympiad was based on the necessity for a series of remarkable cultural events during the 4-year period preceding the Olympic Games. Mr. Mavros went on to explain that the present objective is to establish the Cultural Olympiad as a permanent institution of the Olympic Games, starting from the 2008 Games in Beijing. “We have worked hard towards this direction and we are waiting for the answer from China,” he said. “We would like to change the perception of culture. We do not believe that culture is for the few. On the contrary, we support the idea that culture is for everybody that wishes to be a part of it and contribute to its evolution; an evolution that will be in accordance with the present needs and aspirations of our society and not in accordance with a glorious past or with an uncertain future,” he said.
