The first phase of the 60-million-euro campaign has been completed and the second phase is now in full force. Official data recently released by the tourism development ministry offices show the extent of advertising activities that have been completed thus far. In particular, within Germany, Greece as a destination has been strongly promoted in Berlin, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Munich, Dresden, Stuttgard and Leipzig. In Berlin alone, the campaign included some 1,500 outdoor posters. The overall campaign takes advantage of 11 international and 10 national television networks. Among the international networks are CNN, BBC World, Eurosport 1, Discovery Channel, Fashion TV, National Geographic Channel, CNBC, Bloomberg TV and Euronews. National television networks within the campaign include TV Berlin, TV Munchen, RR TV (Cologne), TV NRW, and Austrian and Swiss networks. Print advertising have already begun to appear in popular internationally acclaimed newspapers and magazines, such as the Independent, Times of London, New York Times, USA Today and Time magazine. German publications with Greek destination ads include Franfurter Allgemeine, Die Zeit, Stern, Geo and Turistik Report. Particularly strong in Germany is the promotion of Greece through the “Moving Tourism Exhibition” within Germany’s railway network, which began on February 1. These exhibitions are organized by Choose Media and are executed under the auspices of the Greek Tourism Development Ministry and the Hellenic Tourism Organization. “The information program here is the biggest in terms of time and place,” says Choose Media. “It begins at the central train station in Frankfurt and continues to another seven major German train stations up until the end of June, the beginning of July.” The aim of the information marathon, says Choose Media, is to inform the German citizen on destination Greece through a long-term, coordinated and pioneering activity within the German market. The Moving Tourism Exhibition does not only promote Greece as a whole but also a number of its regions. Included are Attikis, Ionian Islands, the Dodekanissos, Rodos, Rethymnon and Heraklion on Crete, and East Macedonian Kavala area. Also included are a number of important tourism representatives from Greece’s private sector.
