Vagonetto, just 40 kilometers from Delphi, opened its underground caverns to the public just 18 months ago and since then has welcomed more than 9,000 visitors. To better accommodate visitors, the high tech theme park has added a 12-person mini train car (vagonetto) and can now carry up to 48 visitors down to the depths of Mine Gallery 850. Here, visitors, discover the history of bauxite mining in Greece through the use of hi-tech methods and special effects that document the typical day of miners decades ago. As well, organizers have added staff so mine excursions now take place every 20 minutes – the one-hour tours are now available in Greek, English, Spanish, French, Italian and German. After each tour, visitors head for the site’s Park Expo where there’s an impressive museum on bauxite and its mining. The Park area now boasts two coffee shops that accommodate up to 70 people and a conference area and event halls for up 130 people.
