Delta Receives Athens Airport Award

Delta has been named the “Fastest Growing Airline for North America” by Athens International Airport at the first award ceremony of its kind. Delta’s commercial director for Greece and Cyprus, Dimitri Karagioules, said on receiving the award that “Delta is delighted to receive this award from our colleagues at AIA which highlights the dedication our airline has demonstrated to this city.

“With our successful increased service between Athens and New York last year and substantial charter flight operations to support the Olympics, Delta’s presence in 2004 increased by 50.6% compared to 2003.”

Delta was awarded for demonstrating the highest growth out of Athens airport to North America last year, contributing to the airport’s overall growth of 11.5% that made Athens International Airport the second fastest growing airport in Europe in 2004.

In addition, with a load factor or 85% in 2004, the airport recognized Delta as the leading airline in terms of achieved load factors for the year.
