Internet Hosts a Plethora of Fraudulent Travel Companies

Tsabikos Moschatos, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Tourism Enterprises, last month sent a letter to Tourism Development Minister and urged him to set up a tourism crime agency to track people or companies that advertise tourism services without the official operating license. He said that many instances of fraudulent behavior from supposedly legitimate companies on the Internet have emerged recently.

He suggested there are hundreds of cases of people who have set up websites at home and offer holidays to thousands of unsuspecting potential tourists around the world who are under the impression they are dealing with official Greek travel agencies.

As an example, he said that besides taking work from a legal travel office, these fraudulent Internet companies not only take advantage of the traveler, but also give Greece a bad name.
