The first pan-European forum for agro-tourism was held recently in Epirus. Organized by Agrotouristiki S.A., the state organization for alternative tourism development, the forum will be held annually to promote agro-tourism in Greece, and to increase cooperation between Greek and European agro-tourism businesses.

his year’s forum included excursions to increase site-specific knowledge about the region. Some of the areas visited were the Zagorochoria, Dodoni, the Vikos Gorge, and the Tsouka monastery.

About 250 people attended the two-day forum. Sixty of the participants were European tour operators and journalists from England, France, Germany, Holland, Spain and Italy.

he organizers envision the forum as a venue for participants to gather and exchange information, and to develop relationships that will help place Greek agro-tourism initiatives on the European tourism map.

The forum was held under the auspices of the ministry of tourism development and through the support of the Epirus Region.
