Select tour operators from the U.S. and Europe involved in the cruise industry, as well as journalists specializing in marine tourism have been invited. The FAM trip will include visits to the sites in Athens and a one-day cruise aboard a luxury ship to the island of Aegina and Ancient Epidavros. On Wednesday, September 27th, a forum will be held in Athens titled “The Return of Mainstream Cruising to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Greece’s Role as the Eastern Hub of the Mediterranean.” The forum will serve as a venue for providing information on the authorities responsible for regulating cruises in Greece and for identifying the problems faced by Greece and suggestions for resolving them so that the country can succeed in developing this particularly important market. The speakers and guests invited to this five-day event are representatives of the largest U.S. and European cruise companies, as well as representatives from international organizations involved in the cruising and marine tourism sector. Speakers will present information about the international market and the experiences of other countries in developing this sector. The trip is being organized in conjunction with the Hellenic-American Chamber, the Institute for Culture and Development and the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association (EPEST).
