This year’s theme is Competitiveness Through Sustainability: Opportunities and Challenges for Mediterranean Destinations.” During the forum, international practices and views on competitiveness and sustainable tourism development will be discussed. Also to be presented at the forum are the results of the annual study made by the Development and Progress of the Dodekannisos Islands (DETAP) and Tourism Team of the Dodekannisos Chamber. This year’s forum will present data on the developments and trends of the tourism market and prove that tourism destinations do not have an expiration date. Instead, tourism destinations can remain popular over the long-term as long as efforts are made to discover and promote new forms of sustainable tourism. The chamber envisions this forum as a venue for policy-makers, businessmen and researchers in the tourism sector to come together and each contribute information on their area of knowledge and expertise. The forum, being held under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program, is drawing international interest. The Greek ministry of tourism and the southern Aegean Authority are the official sponsors of the event.
