According to Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, vice president of Celebrity Cruises, “we are extremely happy to be the only cruise company to offer such a facility to our art-loving passengers.” She also added that this is “a unique experience for passengers and the knowledge gained through the tour adds to the overall experience of the cruise itself.” Passengers can receive their autonomous tour guide device from reception free-of-charge. The device itself, according to the company, is very easy to use and similar to those used at the Louvre’s Museum and the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York. It allows passengers to receive information on works of art in their order of preference and at their own pace, and offers the highest quality of sound. The information provided is recounted by art historians who not only explain the concept of the piece of art but also the train of thought of the artist during the creation of each particular work. The first tour guide devices were delivered in April on the Celebrity Century and until the end of this month it is anticipated by the company that six more vessels-Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Galaxy, Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Mercury, Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Summit-will be fully equipped with this facility. The value of the collections aboard each vessel is some 1.1 million euros. The collection includes modern works of art, sculpture and photography of the twentieth century from renowned artists such as Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Pablo Picasso.
