The Thessaloniki Proastiako railway is now officially open to transport passengers from Thessaloniki to Litochoro. With Desiro Electric trains and a speed of up to 160 kilometers an hour, the new 98-kilometer rail line completes the route in 55 minutes.

Suburban railway trains come from the provinces of Thessaloniki, Pieria and Imathia, serve eight stations with 16 scheduled hourly routes from both directions. The line is open from five in the morning until midnight and middle stations include Sindos, Adendro, Plati, Eginio, Korinos and Katerini.

The cost of a single ticket from Thessaloniki to Litochoro is six euros and the price of a return is 10 euros and valid for one month. The new line is expected to carry 3,000 passengers a day and it is anticipated that a card for daily commuters will be available in due course.
