Destinations news Hearts in Athens Public Art Event Launched by GTP editing team 1 March 2008 written by GTP editing team 1 March 2008 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 16 More than 60 hearts sponsored by the business community and painted or sculptured by established or upcoming artists and eminent local personalities have been strategically displayed in specific locations around the city of Athens and will remain there until the 19th of March. The fiberglass, metal and wooden hearts grace several Metro stations, Syntagma Square and Ermou Avenue, Technopolis and many other key points so that according to the organizers, “We can admire them, we can love them, we can judge them, we can touch them and they will touch us with their sensitivity and their messages; strolling by, we will fancy them, we will stop to take a picture of them and we will look for them throughout the city.” The public art event was recently launched with a party at the Athens Imperial hotel. The organizers “Consortium Hearts” -constituted by the companies Goldair and Comm Group- the artists, sponsors, members of the media and friends of Hearts in Athens were all present at the celebration. Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis officially inaugurated the event. The Hearts in Athens event is under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens. On the 14th of April, the hearts are to be auctioned and half of the earnings will be donated to the “Together for Children” (“Mazi gia to paidi”) non-profit charitable organization.
