Surveys, Trends & Stats Greece Shifts Two Positions on TTCI by GTP editing team 1 April 2008 written by GTP editing team 1 April 2008 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 14 The Association of Greek Tourist Enterprises (SETE) and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) jointly announced Greece has shifted up two positions on the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) released annually by the World Economic Forum. Greece has moved from 24th to 22nd position on the index amongst 130 countries (124 countries in 2007). In relation to immediate competitors, Greece continues to fall behind Spain that holds the 5th position and Portugal that holds the 15th position. However, Greece has surpassed Cyprus that has shifted to 24th position, Croatia now at 34th position, Turkey at 54th position and Egypt at 66th position. The improvement of Greece’s position, according to SETE and SEV, is primarily due to the shift of Cyprus, Belgium and the United Arab Emirates to lower positions on the index. Greece also received a high score with regard to the priority placed on tourism by the government and overall government activity in the tourism sector. As in 2007, countries with high revenues, developed business environments, contemporary infrastructure and adequate human and natural resources hold the first positions. Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Australia and Spain hold the first to fifth positions respectively.
