The GNTO aims to use the show as a platform to discuss contemporary issues in Greek tourism, the development of Greek tourism and improvements that must be made. Every show is dedicated to a different region whose tourism product is explained through the voices of its citizens, tourism representatives and administrative bodies. The GNTO claims this radio show is “In line with the new marketing strategy that places emphasis on domestic tourism and indicates the priorities of Greece’s new tourism policy.” The show, according to the tourism development ministry, also serves the purpose of promoting Athens as a City Break destination within the framework of strengthening Athens’ tourism platform. In an interview on the radio show “Colors of Greece,” Tourism Development Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos asserted that with regard to Athens as a City Break destination, “We must target our action towards the creation of an exhibition and conference center with particular emphasis on infrastructure because if we want Athens to attract more tourists we must make it an appealing MICE destination.” Insofar as tourism movement this season is concerned, the tourism development minister said: “We must have reserved optimism, as the dollar-euro conversion is not favorable at the moment and Greece has become an expensive destination.” He concluded, “Although this situation is not a positive one, we have a holistic approach in our advertising campaign for a specific tourism product that aims to attract tourists from specific markets, with specific needs, with a different audience and aim, and through this fresh approach we remain optimistic.” Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
