The prefect of Grevena, Dimosthenis Kouptsidis, recently signed the “grant agreement” for the Pindos-Grevena project, which entered the European Union’s LIFE program and will be implemented throughout the Grevena prefecture from 2009 to 2011.

The project sees to the protection of the environment and habitat of bears in North Pindos.

The leader of the project is the Grevena Prefecture and associates are the National Agricultural Research Foundation, the environmental organization Callisto, the Grevena development agency and the consulting company Business Architects.

LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument that supports environmental conservation projects throughout the EU. Since 1992 it has co-financed some 2,750 projects with almost 1.4 billion euros.
