Laws, Regulations & Policy Zoning Law Continues to Spark Reactions by Nikos Krinis 1 January 2009 written by Nikos Krinis 1 January 2009 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 5 Disputes in regards to the content of the planned zoning law for tourism was expressed recently by the Greek Urban and Land Planners Association who made proposals for its improvement. The association claimed that an integrated concept and a tourism development proposal for the next 15 years is absent from the planned zoning law for tourism. According to the association, the zoning law lacks basic rules of land planning as well as rules for the organization of tourism development with sustainable criteria in the context of the development process of all productive sectors. The association considers that the diversification of tourism from private holidays must remain clear, both for planning, environmental, budgetary and financial reasons. Also, 34 parliament members of the opposition political party recently argued that the planned zoning law for tourism fails to solve Greek tourism’s basic problems, such as the small number of overnights per visitor and the need to extend the tourism season from three months to more than six. In addition, Greece’s association of architects called for the withdrawal of the planned zoning law for tourism.
