Destinations news Kythera Wins Over Austrians by GTP editing team 1 June 2009 written by GTP editing team 1 June 2009 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 A group of Austrians, composed by GNTO representatives, Austrian journalists and tour operators were recently given the “inside story” of Kythera through a familiarization tour that took place last month on the island. The four-day activities included a guided tour of the island’s villages and monasteries, walks on organized paths and a boat trip to the southern waters of Kythera. At a press conference that took place at the island’s town hall, the Austrian guests told Mayor Theodoros Koukoulis that Kythera combines most of the elements that attract Austrian tourists. Access to the island was discussed and Austrian tour operators said they would examine the possibility of a new charter flight from Austria to Kythera airport for 2010. Panagiotis Drakakis, president of the Kythera municipality tourism committee, said the outcome of the familiarization tour was very positive. “Over the next two months we are expecting extensive travel specials in three of the most popular Austrian daily newspapers and another two articles are to appear in two travel magazines,” Mr. Drakakis said. The tour was organized within the framework of the Kythera Municipality’s tourism promotional campaign that began two years ago.
