According to the association, the museum’s aim is to inform the next generation on how Greece’s tourism industry began, who were the pioneers in the development of the tourism sector so far, and how the tourism industry affects the Greek economy. With the help of innovative applications the museum will include interactive exhibitions, educational programs, virtual reality tours and documentaries. Also, libraries will be created and spaces to accommodate conferences and small exhibitions. The museum will also be home to valuable historical files and is anticipated to become a new attraction for Greek and foreign researchers and students. Also present at the presentation was Tourism Minister Kostas Markopoulos who applauded the association’s “very original and unique project” and offered the ministry’s assistance so that the museum will open in 2010. According to the association, the culture ministry has granted the building that will house the museum.
