The “Theseus rescues Hippodamia” sculpture was returned to its location in Victoria Square on 24 July by the City of Athens, following the completion of restoration and cleaning works carried out on the artwork.

The 3.4 meter sculpture had been transfered to a special workshop in order for restoration and cleaning in February 2008 within the framework of the City of Athens Maintenance and Restoration of Outdoor Sculpted Monuments project.

The sculpture was created in 1906 by Johannes Pfuhl and depicts Theseus rescuing Hippodamia from the Centaur Eurytion, in accordance with the ancient myth. Initially, it was placed in Syntagma Square, then in 1918 it was transferred to Victoria Square, where it remains up until today.
