Athens’ Taxi Cabs Disappoint TravelersAthens taxis were voted the filthiest in the world, according to a survey conducted by hotels.com website.

The hotels.com poll of international travelers focused on the top taxi destinations for cleanliness, value, quality of driving, knowledge of the area, friendliness, safety and availability.

Athens came in first place as being the worst city in the world for taxi cleanliness with an eleven percent vote. Athens was followed by Marrakech, Bangkok, Mumbai and New York.

Also, international travelers included Athens in the categories of worst cities based on “quality of driving” (third place-eight percent), “knowledge of the area” (third place-six percent); and “safety” (fifth place-seven percent).

London’s black cabs were voted the best in the world for the second year by 33 percent of the surveyed travelers.

London was followed by New York, Berlin, Madrid and Copenhagen.

The survey was conducted amongst 1,400 travelers from the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark in May 2009.
