A proposal that involves passenger rights for bus and coach transport was adopted at the European Union Council of Transport Ministers held in December in Brussels. The proposal aims to strengthen the rights of bus and coach passengers that travel on international and long-distance lines.

The proposal adopted by the Council provided compensation costs in cases of injury/death or loss/damage of luggage and cancellation or delay of a journey. Also highlighted were the rights of passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

According to reports, the council will try to reach a political agreement on the draft directive on passenger rights in bus and coach transport.

The Greek government was represented by the undersecretary for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Nikos Sifounakis.

The proposal was part of a general EU policy to ensure equal treatment of passengers, regardless of the mode of transport chosen, while reinforcing passenger rights.
