Air Travel Aegean Airlines Reshuffles Internal Flight Network by GTP editing team 1 April 2010 written by GTP editing team 1 April 2010 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 5 Aegean Airlines announced last month that flights to Lemnos and Kefallonia would be cut immediately after the Easter holiday as of 7 April due to commercial and financial reasons. However, Greek press reports speculate that the airline’s decision is “an informal start of the cooperation between Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air” due to their upcoming merge plans. In addition, prior to the results of the tender that will award a two-year contract for routes to Greek remote destinations, Aegean Airlines announced that the company so far had secured the operation of routes Athens-Sitia and Thessaloniki-Kerkyra as it was the only lowest bidder. Flights are to begin as of 1 April and routes will take place five times a week. The tender’s official results have yet to be announced. Aegean Airlines also announced its new Athens-Kalamata daily route effective as of 14 May. An additional daily flight will be added as of 20 May. According to the carrier, the coverage of the service was the result of an agreement signed with premier development of luxury mixed-use resorts TEMES. The company is on the verge of completing half of one of the biggest investment projects in the Messinia region, southwest Peloponnese (Costa Navarino resort project).
