Tourism Minister At NYT Travel Show

Greece is up against a great crisis but is not hiding, Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos assured during his visit to the 2010 New York Times Travel Show that took place at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York on February 26-28.

Mr. Geroulanos said the government is in “an unequal battle” as there is a lack of funds and technical support and he underlined the importance of Greece’s appearance at the New York travel show.

In a meeting with tour operators from the 32 stands within the GNTO pavilion, Mr. Geroulanos was informed about the current problems due to former national carrier (recently privatized) Olympic Airline’s direct Athens-New York flight cuts.

According to tour operators, huge problems have been created in finding seats especially during March-April and September-October.

Greece was a sponsor of this year’s New York Times Travel Show, organized by New York Times newspaper, which is considered one of the top travel fairs with more than 500 exhibitors and an average of 27,000 visitors.
