Destinations news German Arrivals Fall in Greece by GTP editing team 1 May 2010 written by GTP editing team 1 May 2010 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 5 German bookings to Greece are in a standstill, tourism professionals in Germany told the foreign press last month. Specifically, an article published in Czech Republic newspaper Lidové Noviny, entitled “German tourists lose interest for Greece,” included comments made by Air Berlin’s CEO Joachim Hunold who mentioned that the German airline has noticed a significant drop in bookings to Greek destinations. The airline’s CEO said that Air Berlin believes that it is possible for the company’s overall economic performance of the year to be affected as it serves some 20 destinations to Greece. Similar were the comments of REWE group travel agency that also recorded a decline in bookings to Greece. “We assume this is related to articles that appeared in the press about the problems in Greece,” spokeswoman Daniela Zaouervalnt said. However, according to TUI tourism agency and Lufthansa, no declines in bookings to Greece have occurred. “There is a general trend of a significant increase in bookings, which includes Greece,” a TUI representative told the press. German and British tourists make up one third of Greek tourism. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
