Athens hotel revenue decreased by seven percent during the first quarter of 2010 with the average revenue per available room shaped at 49.46 euros, according to official statistics of the Athens-Attica Hoteliers Association in regards to hotel occupancy for the first quarter of the year.

The average room occupancy rates for the same period closed at 48.6 percent with a decrease of one percent compared to 2009.The average room price was 101.77 euros, which translated to a six percent decrease compared to the same period the year before.

“Hotel occupancy so far is moving according to initial estimates and we believe that any figure better than an eight percent drop in revenue losses for 2010 would be the best case scenario for Athens,” the association said in an announcement.

According to the association, when compared to 11 rival destinations in regards to hotel occupancy, the Greek capital produced the worst performance and was the only city that recorded a decline compared to 2009. London, Paris and Munich recorded the highest room occupancy rates (75.8 percent, 68.5 percent and 64.5 percent respectively).
