An action plan to combat the situation in the center of Athens that includes illegal immigrants, drug dealing and abuse, prostitution and the sale of counterfeit merchandise, is currently in the works, according to Deputy Citizens Protection Minister Spyros Vougias.

According to recent press reports, the action plan involves the cooperation of seven ministries to help boost the quality of life in Athens and the safety of residents and visitors.

The deputy minister underlined that over the next six months citizens will notice the first concrete results in downtown Athens.

Hoteliers in Athens center will surely await these results as, according to a recent study conducted by the Research Institute for Tourism and Forecasts (ITEP) and the Citizens Movement of Athens Center (KIPOKA), hotels located in the city center are counting losses due to the bad shape of the Greek capital’s center.
