“The General Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants of Greece has nothing to do with tourism, it does not represent tourism businesses and is obviously uninformed in regards to the situation and trends in the tourism market,” the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) said recently.

The confederation had announced that it was in favor of Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Yiorgos Nikitiadis’ proposal to reward investors of new hotels with extra government subsidies if  they choose not to offer all-inclusive services.

“Tourists should have the option to choose where they will consume their income, inside or outside the hotel… This option is undermined by the all-inclusive tactics,” the confederation said.

SETE advised the confederation to take care of its own business and “let the appropriate authorities look after the tourism sector.”

In an announcement, the confederation replied that “tourism is not just hotel beds.

“While hotel tourism is the most subsidized business in Greece it unfortunately does not meet modern conditions, needs or requirements,” the confederation concluded.
