According to a press release by the ministry, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will fly throughout the year from Rome to Rodos as of 1 December. The airline also announced plans to fly to nine Greek airports from 31 European airports and 10 other countries. “This will transfer some 700.000 new visitors to Greece in 2011 thus reaching 1 million passengers,” the ministry said in an announcement. Discussions have also been held with low-cost carrier easyJet, which is estimated to transfer 700.000 passengers this year from seven countries to 10 Greek airports via 35 routes. The ministry said that discussions have also been held with German low-cost airline Air Berlin and Dutch based low-cost carrier Transavia.
