Small Hotels Exempt From OAEE Insurance

Owners of small hotel units will be excused from the insurance obligation to the Self-Employed Workers’ Insurance Organization (OAEE), Alternate Labor and Social Insurance Minister Yiorgos Koutroumanis recently assured the president of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, Yiorgos Tsakiris. Legislation on the matter should be tabled in early 2011.

According to an announcement by the chamber, through the new arrangement, small hotel owners are to receive the same “treatment” as the owners of rooms-to-let and apartments on insurance issues.

Mr. Koutroumanis has instructed the head of OAEE to allow a “period of tolerance” to the owners of small hotels, who are estimated at approximately 1,500, until the issue is settled through law.
