Destinations news Piraeus Headed Towards Major Revamp by GTP editing team 1 February 2011 written by GTP editing team 1 February 2011 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 The Cultural Coast of Piraeus project aims to highlight the comparative advantages of Piraeus so the city can once again become a reference point rather than simply a point of transit as it is considered today, according to the Culture and Tourism Ministry. Last month, the president of the Piraeus Port Authority, Yiorgos Anomeritis, presented the masterplan for the Cultural Coast of Piraeus project. The budget of the project is 70 million euros and the aim is to give citizens access to the port and open the city to the sea. According to the ministry, Piraeus would become an important destination for the Mediterranean region in combination with the implementation of the lifting of cabotage restrictions. Through the Cultural Coast of Piraeus project the great archaeological sites of Piraeus will be promoted while open green spaces will also be provided to residents and visitors. A “neighborhood museum” that will include the new Archaeological Museum of Piraeus will also be developed to highlight the legacy of Piraeus.
