A tourism cooperation protocol aimed to tighten the ties between Greece and Israel was signed last month in Athens between Culture and Tourism Pavlos Geroulanos and his Israeli counterpart, Stas Misezhnikov.

The Israeli tourism minister’s visit to Greece followed talks he had with Mr. Geroulanos in Tel Aviv, Israel, during the 17th International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) in February.

According to the protocol, the cooperation framework between the two countries will focus on cruise ship tourism, religious tourism and culture tourism.

The two ministers also agreed for each country to set up joint tour packages aimed at the markets of China, Russia, India, Japan and the US.

In addition, to increase tourism between Greece and Israel both ministers pledged to support a Tel Aviv-Thessaloniki air route.

The joint Greece-Israel Ministerial Council will take place this month in Jerusalem headed by the Prime Ministers of both countries.

Also, the date of the fourth Greek-Israeli joint committee for tourism cooperation, scheduled to take place in Israel, should soon be announced.
