“We intend to highlight the elements of the city that remain attractive and interest Greek and foreign visitors, which contribute to the upgrading of the tourism experience in Athens and bring immediate benefits to the local economy,” the president of the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company (ATEDCo), Yiorgos Broulias, said last month.

At an event held in Athens, the company presented its new strategic action plan for Athens tourism for the 2011-2012 period that is included in the City of Athens’ development policies for the Greek capital.

The new action plan includes a metropolitan alliance for tourism in Athens, the expansion of the Athens Convention Bureau’s activity and the development of a City Pass program.

In addition, two new Info Point booths are soon to operate in the city -along with the existing booth at the Athens International Airport- on Amalias Avenue and Dionysiou Areopagitou Streets and at the Piraeus Port Authority’s cruise terminal.

Furthermore, the company’s managing director, Alexis Galinos, announced ATEDCo’s plan to design a “mobility center” to serve Greek citizens and tourists in Athens for travel within the city.
