According to Mr. Vassilikos, Kavala could easily emerge as a very attractive tourism destination. In January 2010 Airotel group signed a long-term lease for the operation of the Galaxy hotel in Kavala, which first opened in 1964. The hotel overlooks the port, considered the most advantageous part of the city, and is near the central market and within walking distance of major sights and services. The hotel’s complete renovation began in September 2010 and its official launch took place eight months later on 3 June 2011 with an aim to stimulate Kavala’s tourism factor. In its renovated form, Galaxy hotel offers 149 fully equipped rooms and one suite. It provides four conference rooms suitable for all types of events, a business center, a fully equipped gym and a steam room. Airotel Group was created in 1984 and today owns four hotels and manages another three. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
