Twenty museums and archaeological sites should be upgraded by the endof summer 2011. According to the revamp scheme and a time schedule set by the ministry, 20 museums and archaeological sites should be completed by the end of this summer while the remaining 149 will go up to the A1 category over the next three years. Among the 20 sites to be upgraded immediately are archaeological sites and museums that attract a large number of visitors, including the Acropolis, Knossos, Olympia and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. The upgrade of services will include the issuance of bilingual brochures and catalogs, pamphlets in Braille for the visually impaired and the installations of outposts and toilets for the disabled. In addition, the 20 upgraded museums and archaeological sites will be integrated into the Greek National Tourism Organization’s digital convergence program, which opens the way to digital tours via new generation mobile phones.
