Surveys, Trends & Stats British Report On UK Arrivals To Greece by GTP editing team 1 September 2011 written by GTP editing team 1 September 2011 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 This year fewer incidents occurred that concerned British tourists in Greece who needed assistance from the consular or Greek authorities, according to the results of an annual report of the British Department for British tourists traveling abroad. The report was delivered last month to Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister George Nikitiadis. According to the General Consul of Great Britain to Greece Nerys Jones, the positive results were due to the excellent cooperation between the ministry and the British Embassy in Greece. “The ministry’s services will continue to provide all possible assistance for the best possible accommodation of all visitors to our country,” Mr. Nikitiadis said. The deputy minister said the Greek government looked forward to quality tourism and the ministry’s new strategy is outlined in that direction. According to the report, 2,335,000 British tourists visited Greece last year and as forecast by the ministry, this year that number is expected to rise, according to reservations already made. Although the incidents involving misbehaving tourists were fewer this year, those that did occur did not lack importance. Incidents involved the fatal stabbing of a British tourist by a local taxi driver on Zakynthos, the arrest of eight Britons in Hersonissos, Crete, for reckless driving and the arrest of four young Britons in Malia, Crete, after they allegedly caused a riot in a bar.
