Last month, the Smithonian published the “Smithsonian Life List: 43 Places to See Before You Die” and included Santorini and the Parthenon among the “list of sites that any true world traveler cannot miss.” The list includes destinations from wonders of the world to thrills for adventure seekers. Santorini was included in the “Great Natural Vistas” category and the article highlighted “the Greek isle, a remnant of a long ago volcanic eruption, has most everything a traveler would want: great food and awe-inspiring scenery.” In regards to the Parthenon, included in the “In the Presence of Gods” category, the Smithonian underlined the massive restoration effort that is taking place and overseen by the Greek government. “More than 2,400 years after its construction, the Parthenon -the sanctuary to the goddess Athena- still dominates the skyline of the Acropolis in Athens,” the magazine commented.
