The General Secretariat of Tourism recently launched a tender to select an operator for the port in Mytilini who would be granted the use, utilization, management, administration and operation of the port for a period of 40 years.

According to Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister George Nikitiadis, maritime tourism is a priority for the government and the creation of marinas is one of the two major axes of marine tourism.

“Mytilini is an important hub in the Aegean and a great destination and it is certain that the creation of a modern marina would offer to the island’s and the wider region’s tourism,” he said.

The General Secretariat of Tourism aims to attract companies that finance projects and develop real estate and businesses active in the area of marina management, marine tourism, hospitality, catering and construction.

Further information can be found on the ministry’s website: http://www.yppo.gr/2/g20.jsp. The deadline for submission of offers is 5 September 2011.
