Trade Associations - Gov Hotels May Be Exempt From New Property Tax by GTP editing team 1 October 2011 written by GTP editing team 1 October 2011 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 Hotels and lodges may be off the hook in regards to a new property tax introduced to the Greek society last month by Economy Minister Evangelos Venizelos. According to reports, the government expects to draw three billion euros from the new tax, which will be charged on and collected via the Public Power Corporation (DEH) electricity bills. Mr. Venizelos originally said it was reasonable for hotels and lodges to be exempt from the new property tax because they “are an export activity.” However, he said a final decision would be announced. By the time we went to print it was still not clear if hotels would be charged the tax or not as an amendment tabled in Parliament by the economy ministry lacked reference on the matter. On the other hand, factories, churches and charities are in fact exempt from the new property tax.
