The data showed that bookings in four-star hotels in Athens increased in August by 24.4 percent as the average hotel occupancy stood at 63.1 percent from 50.7 percent in 2010. Bookings in five-star hotels of the Greek capital recorded a rise of 2.7 percent with the average hotel occupancy at 57.5 percent from 55.9 percent in 2010. On the other hand, two- and three-star hotels saw a 10.5 percent fall in bookings with the average hotel occupancy at 60.6 percent from 67.7 percent last year. The association said the progress of the city’s four-star hotels was due to the rearrangement of prices rather than attracting new customers of higher categories.
