Giannis Balakakis, CEO of Gnomon Performance, in late March presented the Geo Routes and Aegean Routes to an audience of tourism professionals and journalists. “These routes are theme cultural expeditions and are addressed to experienced travelers from Greece and abroad that seek experiential travel experiences,” he said.

“Greece, with whatever difficulties, is still one of the most charismatic corners of the world, with colors, nature, history, culture, gastronomy, ancient values, but above all unique people, all of which creates a canvas that is not found elsewhere,” Gnomon Performance’s CEO Giannis Balakakis said in late March during a presentation of the Geo Routes and Aegean Routes initiative held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The aim of the route “expeditions” is to make unexplored parts of Greece known, highlight the country’s cultural heritage and contribute to the development of the local society via Corporate Social Responsibility programs.

The planning of the expeditions in regards to their cultural, social, historical, culinary and environmental character resulted from the contribution of a team of professionals and scientists.

The Geo Routes and Aegean Routes include accommodation, food and daily activities on pre-planned routes where the traveler drives his own vehicle in convoy as he follows a lead tour vehicle. The expeditions can be adapted to specific needs and requirements of groups in terms of thematic content, duration and period of implementation.

A total of 14 expeditions have been planned for 2012. The first is a five-day expedition entitled “The Gates of Hades” and will take place in South Peloponnese in mid-May.

The initiative is held under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and has the support of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE).
