Destinations news Greek Museums and Sites On Temporary Summertime Schedule by GTP editing team 1 May 2012 written by GTP editing team 1 May 2012 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 State Museums and archaeological sites in Greece will operate on the temporary schedule 9:30am-5:30pm until further notice, according to the Culture and Tourism Ministry. This applies to all state museums and sites except for the Acropolis that is open until 7pm. The revision to the opening hours came after it was announced that the winter schedule (8am-3pm) would continue to apply until June since the tender process for the hiring of 680 seasonal employees was delayed due to this month’s national elections. Tourism professionals expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay since organized visits to museums and archaeological sites had become “almost impossible for tourists.” The summertime schedule (8am-8pm) usually runs 1 April-31 October. Meanwhile, the Culture and Tourism Ministry last month reopened the Bronze Age site of Akrotiri on Santorini that was closed down in 2005 after its roof collapsed and killed a 45-year old Welsh tourist. Due to high visitation the site will remain open daily 10am to 5pm. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
