Greece and the United Arab Emirates on Monday, 1 October, agreed to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, according to a press release by the Greek Tourism Ministry.

During a meeting held today in Abu Dhabi, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and her counterpart Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan discussed a series of issues that included attracting tourists and investment to Greece and activity prospects of Greek companies in Abu Dhabi.

“The Emirates is a highly interesting market that we can benefit from,” the tourism minister said.

On Sunday, 30 September, Mrs. Kefalogianni gave the keynote address at the 2nd World Route Development Strategy Summit 2012 (30 September-1 October) held in Abu Dhabi. The summit focused on establishing the potential of the aviation industry to drive economic growth in the current financial climate.

“Greece sees aviation as key to rescuing itself from its economic predicament,” the tourism minister was reported saying.

According to reports, Mrs. Kefalogianni said Greece would work hard to introduce necessary regulatory, infrastructure and market reforms to promote aviation activity in Greece.

The 2nd World Route Development Strategy Summit this year brought together over 35 leading speakers from across the industry including airlines, airports, governments, travel and tourism and air cargo to debate and discuss major industry challenges ranging from policy and taxation to environmental issues and emerging markets.
