MICE Heraklion Port In The Spotlight At Cruise Conference by GTP editing team 1 October 2012 written by GTP editing team 1 October 2012 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 Chairman and managing director of the Heraklion Port Authority, Ioannis Bras, informs Greek tourism professionals in regards to the authority’s very successful local cooperation in cruise destination development and promotion. The Heraklion Port was the center of attention during the 1st Corfu Cruise Conference “The Cruise Industry and Local Communities” that took place last weekend, 28-29 September, on Corfu. During the second session of the conference “Local Cooperation in Cruise Destination Development and Promotion,” the chairman and managing director of the Heraklion Port Authority, Ioannis Bras, informed the audience on the authority’s successful cooperation with Heraklion’s local government, chamber, trade association, region, travel agents, airport, taxi drivers, etc. The local cooperation in Heraklion opened the way to a series of interventions at Heraklion Port for the customer experience enhancement of cruise passengers. These functional, aesthetic and informational interventions included improvements that increased the quality and safety offered by Heraklion Port to cruise ships and their passengers/visitors to Heraklion city. Greek tourism professionals such as Yiorgos Telonis, the president of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies and Michalis Lambros of the Union of Greek Cruise Ship Owners, advised other Greek ports to follow the example of Heraklion Port. As of 29 June, Heraklio, Crete, is the homeport for Costa Atlantica – of Europe’s largest cruise operator Costa Cruises – on a 7-night Mediterranean cruise (until late October), while other leading cruise companies have expressed an interest in choosing Heraklion port as a homeport for circular cruises.
