“Germany is a traditional top market for Greece. Although this tourism season was difficult, evidence suggests that the year may close positively,” Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said after her meeting with Germany’s federal deputy labor minister, Hans-Joachim Fuchtel*, today, 23 October, in Berlin, Germany.

One of the main issues discussed in today’s meeting was the possibility of tourism businesses in Germany hiring Greek hotel workers during the winter season and the simplification of bureaucratic procedures.

Topics covered during the meeting included the expansion of the Greek tourism season, the creation of new tourism products and ways to support employment.

“We are pursuing a long cooperation between the two countries on the issue of education and training,” the tourism minister said.

Mrs. Kefalogianni added that medical tourism remained a priority for Greece and that she planned to discuss the matter further with German Federal Minister of Health, Daniel Bahr, who is expected next week in Athens.

* It is reminded that Hans-Joachim Fuchtel has been appointed by Chancellor Angela Merkel as a special envoy to promote Greek-German cooperation on a local administration level.
