The United States Government intends to provide expertise on tourism development issues to support the Greek tourism sector, economic advisors of the American Embassy in Athens informed the Greek Tourism Ministry’s secretary general, Tasos Liaskos, yesterday, Tuesday, 23 October. In a meeting with David Lippeatt and Ms. Scrubert from the American Embassy, Mr. Liaskos requested partnerships with the US to increase the flow of American tourists to Greece, a country “safe and attractive for tourism.” The progress of Greek tourism was also discussed, along with plans for future development and investment opportunities aimed to add value to Greek tourism. Mr. Liaskos informed Mr. Lippeatt and Ms. Scrubert in regards to the Tourism Ministry’s strategy that includes support to entrepreneurship, facilitation to new investments and the classification of the country’s special forms of tourism (marine, medical, etc). He also focused on the ministry’s aim to ensure the quality of tourism infrastructure in Greece. On their part, the economic advisors of the American Embassy said the US side would explore the possibility of launching tourism employee exchange programs for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
