According to Mayor Hatzidiamantis, Limnos currently lacks an efficient ferry connection with Thessaloniki and the matter will be put up for discussion with stakeholders in Thessaloniki.

To boost arrivals from Northern Greece, the Limnos municipality has requested for improved ferry connections between Limnos and Thessaloniki, either through circular ferry connections with other islands of the Northern Aegean (Thassos and Samothrace) or through connections with Istanbul and the Turkish coast, in the latter cases as a stop for cruise itineraries.

The mayor informed journalists on the island’s comparative advantages and underlined the excellent quality of infrastructure, local products, natural environment, and nature routes.

He added that over the recent years, Limnos attracts visitors that want to combine their stay on the island with water sports and hunting.

Visitors from abroad to Limnos mainly come from the UK and opt for all inclusive resorts. They are followed by Italians (who usually arrive and reside in trailers) while lately there has been an increase of tourists from Bulgaria and Hungary.

In regards to Greek visitors, the majority arrive from Northern Greece, whereas previously the majority came from Athens.

In 2015, due to the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli operation, the Municipality of Limnos plans to create excursion routes via cruise ships that will transport visitors from Limnos to Gallipoli.
