An international Cretan olive oil tasting event has been scheduled to take place in January 2013 at Swell Restaurant, located on the beach of the Knossos Beach Bungalows & Suites in Kokkini Hani, Heraklion, Crete.

Experts from Europe and the US are expected to arrive on Crete to sample the excellent quality of the Cretan product to be served with gastronomic innovations of the restaurant’s renowned head chef, Lefteris Lazarou (one Michelin Star).

The olive oil tasting event follows a series of events Swell has launched to highlight Cretan products and promote the island as a high standard gastronomy destination, ideal for year-round tourism.

The restaurant recently held a three-day event (7-9 December) to promote the Cretan chestnut from Chania. The chestnut was featured in various recipes based on an inspired menu of a selected chef.

Swell’s introduction of the chestnut followed a presentation of selected wines from Heraklion held in November. The restaurant has announced that it will soon host a related event for winemakers from all over Crete.

“At Swell we want to offer our personal interpretation of Greek gourmet cuisine with an innovative gastronomic touch of traditional cooking methods using only the best products of Greece,” Knossos Beach Bungalows & Suites says.
