The Costa Magica of Italian cruise company Costa on Wednesday, 2 January, was the first cruiseship to enter Piraeus Port for 2013. Costa is operated by Carnival Cruises. According to the Piraeus Port Authority, Costa’s cruiseships will visit Piraeus this year via 74 routes against 33 in 2012. Yiorgos Anomeritis, president and CEO of the authority, said 2013 will be a positive year for cruise. “Piraeus Port will welcome more than 710 cruise ships with 2.2 million tourists…The port, with 11 berths, new reception areas and the major expansions of the new cruise port, is now the largest cruise port in the Mediterranean,” Mr. Anomeritis said.
