The Hotelstars Union, established in 2009, is a European quality rating system that provides hotel classification with almost identical criteria of participating countries and enhances the reputation and quality of the hotel industry in those countries by creating transparency and security for guests and thereby encouraging hotel marketing. The Hotelstars Union system already applies to 13 countries and concerns some 180 million European citizens, many that come from major countries/target markets for Greece such as Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and The Netherlands. The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels had announced in January that it was in discussions with the HSU on the requirements and specifications for Greece to join the system. Along with Greece, discussions are underway for Spain, France and Cyprus to join the Hotelstars Union system. Guest survey launched at ITB Berlin “Your opinion counts” is the motto of the guest survey launched during the HSU press conference at ITB Berlin and conducted on the union’s homepage. For the first time, guests now have the chance to reveal their expectations and wishes for the future classification in Europe through an online survey. In order to motivate as many guests as possible Europe-wide to complete the online survey, there will be the chance to win hotel stays in various member countries of the Hotelstars Union.
