Culinary Messinia Cuisine Shines At Gastronomy Seminar by GTP editing team 16 March 2013 written by GTP editing team 16 March 2013 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 27 Nearly 20 percent of tourists of a destination fall into the “gastronomy tourism” category, while the number of tourists that choose a destination based on its culinary traditions is growing more and more, tourism and food service professionals were informed recently at the Messinia gastronomy seminar held at Costa Navarino. The seminar aimed to promote and establish Messinian cuisine, promote local products, improve the region’s offered gastronomy and tourism product and upgrade the services in the catering sector. During the seminar, it was highlighted that tourists seek information on the local culture of a destination, including the local cuisine, and that food is not “just about eating” but it is also a form of entertainment. The three-day seminar was an opportunity for the food sector professionals of Messinia to gain insight on data, examples, practical advice and to become acquainted with key professionals. Some 300 professionals attended the seminar, among which tourism and food service professionals, award winning chefs, food critics, journalists and other experts in the fields of gastronomy and tourism. The three-day seminar was held 5-7 March by the Captain Vassilis Foundation and the Messinian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and under the auspices of Athinorama magazine and the Chrysos Skoufos (Golden Cap) awards. 2013 Year of Gastronomy Messinia Following Santorini, Messinia has also announced 2013 as “The year of Gastronomy” and promises its visitors a delicious year. This action aims to promote the Messinia prefecture as an attractive gastronomy destination.
