Initiatives Hilton Athens Supports “Earth Hour” by GTP editing team 20 March 2013 written by GTP editing team 20 March 2013 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 10 Hilton Athens announced it would participate in “Earth Hour” once again and switch off its lights for one hour, this way supporting the global initiative and conveying the message that each and every one of us can act against global warming. “Earth Hour” will be held this year on Saturday 23 March at 20:30. Over one billion people around the world will call for action on climate change by doing something very simple – turning off their lights for one hour. Hilton Athens Hilton Athens, in accordance with Hilton Worldwide, will switch off the hotel’s external and internal lights for an hour. Moreover, restaurants and bars will operate by candle light, whilst guests will be encouraged to participate by switching off their room lights. This year, to celebrate “Earth Hour” and mobilize hotel guests, the Hilton’s Galaxy Bar & Restaurant will serve a new cocktail called “Switch off” and a healthy dish named “hOUR Earth.” “Earth Hour” The “Earth Hour” initiative was launched in 2007 by WWF (World Wildlife Fund) in Sydney and is a global call to action, to take responsibility and get involved in leading the way towards a sustainable future. Global landmarks, monuments and buildings will stand in darkness and people all around the world will switch off their lights and join “forces” for the future of our planet. Last year, 152 countries participated in order to pledge support for the planet, making “Earth Hour 2012” the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
